Making the College Admission Process in regards to You

Senior school me in Such A Thing Goes

Greetings from sunny Southern California! My name is Jessica Frey (informally referred to as J Frey) and we am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I spent my youth in Hollister, a tiny farm town in Northern Ca that has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothes store. I attended a big public school that is high over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to study theatre. My hope is that through sharing my experiences that are own I can provide you some advice and help you feel at ease whenever you approach the college admission process.

Numerous of you visitors is going to be deciding on college it, and I want to make sure you know this is going to be all about you before you know. It might feel a little weird and selfish for those of you who are constantly placing other’s needs before your very own. But in purchase for you yourself to make an informed college list and end up at a destination where you belong and feel happy, you do require to make the college search procedure exactly about yourself.

I do not know I was in high school I made a lot of my decisions based on what other people were doing and thinking about you, but when. It’s cool to put on pants that are red? Okay, maybe I will go get that pair I had been eyeing at the mall last week-end. All the other young ones in my own class are applying to College XYZ? Maybe We should too. My counselor says I’d be good at engineering since I have like my calculus course? We wonder though I have NO IDEA what being an engineer is all about if I should apply to engineering, even. They certainly were all real thoughts I’d since well as many others throughout that anxious and fall that is stressful of senior year.

You let your own thoughts and ideas navigate your choices while it is very easy (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should be one where. Here are three fundamental principles I think every senior high school pupil should shmoop.pro keep in mind they are going to apply to college while they decide where:

Focus on facts rather than opinions. Many people form opinions about different colleges and universities, you should really give attention to yours thoughts of the educational schools plus the information you will find as you research the colleges that interest you. It is important because they offer something that you want in your undergraduate experience- not just because other people you know are fans of the school, or because of its well-known reputation that you are interested in a college.

Reflect on everything you want in an university experience, and apply to schools properly. This is the time for you to be a happy and thriving student for you to think about what a college campus should have in order. Would you like to attend school in a big city or perhaps a college town that is rural? Are you wanting to study abroad in a country that is particular? What type of activities do you wish to pursue not in the classroom? Do you wish to have the opportunity to operate closely with your professors? It has everything you’re looking for, add it to the list if you find a school you’ve never heard of but! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your school or family ever knew about the school ahead of your discovery. It could be a place where you are going to have a college experience that is enjoyable.

Enjoy the search process! The procedure of developing your college list could be a daunting task, but it’s also an enjoyable experience. This is your possiblity to learn as much as you can about the many colleges that are amazing universities across the country. This is your time for you explore the wide array of options and look closely during the colleges you might be considering.

I don’t write this blog to tell you should not listen to your moms and dads, counselors, or peers. You could have wonderful resources at your disposal that provide great advice and insight. Counselors find out about a number of colleges and may also manage to tell you more about those that meet your criteria. Your parents are in a position to help determine which schools will financially be within reach. You simply have to make sure their advice also aligns with what you want in an university experience.

That said, I did buy and totally rocked the pants that are red. I’ll acknowledge if I could get in that I applied to a college I had no intention of attending just to see. I did get into the school, but at the end of the that didn’t matter day. It don’t make me feel better about myself also it was quite genuinely a waste of time and money. But i did so follow my heart and became a theatre major in place of an engineer, and I also’m so happy I did. More on that later.
